The tasks of the CNC
Support
The CNC intervenes at all levels of the film industry: writing, development, production, distribution, exploitation and export. Measures in favour of the audiovisual programme industry are organized around aid for the production of programmes for all television networks, for the creation of innovative audiovisual works, the technical audiovisual industries and the promotion abroad of audiovisual programmes.
Regulate
The CNC participates in the study and elaboration of the regulation and the control of its application by the various actors of the film, audiovisual, video and multimedia industry. The CNC regularly sends draft legal texts of a legislative or regulatory nature to the Ministry of Culture to adapt the means of financing, the aid procedures and the control of companies.
Promote/disseminate
The CNC promotes the promotion and dissemination of works to a wide audience through a system of specific aids for theatrical distribution, non-commercial distribution and support for national and international events. The CNC contributes to the export and promotion of French film and audiovisual abroad in liaison with the other ministries concerned, notably through its financial support to UniFrance Film International and TV France International.
Cooperate
Initiated in 1989, the CNC’s territorial policy aims to make the film and audiovisual sector a real hub of local cultural and economic development, through cooperation between local authorities and the State.
Negotiate
The TNC is responsible, in liaison with the Ministry of Culture, for defining and implementing multilateral policy, whether it is European (European Union, Council of Europe) or international (WTO, OECD, UNESCO, etc.) in the film and audiovisual sector.
Protect
Since 1969, the CNC has been responsible for film heritage policy. The Directorate of Cinematographic Heritage of the CNC covers all actions relating to the collection, conservation, safeguarding, physical and documentary processing, as well as the valorization of this heritage as regards "film" and "non film", or all documents relating to cinema.
