(1) The decennial document is the verification of the presence of works from inventories. It is the consequence of the existence of a public domain whose integrity it serves to verify. This is a very old practice, but recently included in the law of 4 January 2002 on museums in France and codified in article L.451-2 of the French Heritage Code, which states that the collections of museums in France are inscribed on an inventory. They are proofed every ten years.”
