What is a National Choreographic Centre (NCC)?
It is an independent legal structure under the direction of one or more artists.
At the initiative of the State, within the framework of a national policy for the development of the art of dance and, more generally, of the cultural structuring of the territory, the NCCs are entrusted with a main mission of creation and production of shows and associated missions, in particular support for young companies.
As a general rule, NCCs have only work and rehearsal facilities and sell their production to broadcasting facilities. Some NCCs, especially those that exemplify classical aesthetics, have a permanent troupe.
The map of France currently includes 19 national choreographic centres run by artists representing a wide variety of languages and forms of dance, the list of which can be found on --> this page of the site.
The national choreographic centres are spread across the country. There is usually one per region.
The national choreographic centres are constituted in association or inter-communal union form and are directed by one or more choreographers appointed by the association’s board of directors on the basis of an artistic project. The national choreographic centres, located at the national and international level and entrusted to the direction of renowned choreographic artists, are reference centres for all actors in the choreographic development of their region.
