National Dance Centre
Created in 1998, and directed since 2013 by Mathilde Monnier, the Centre national de la Danse (CND) is a public establishment entirely devoted to dance, located both in Pantin and Lyon.
The NEC is a resource centre for professionals and the public, whose main missions are:
- accompanying and training professional dancers: preparation for educational diplomas, continuing and continuing training of performing artists (more than 2,000 trainees each year), services to professionals throughout their careers (guidance, retraining, legal advice, etc.);
- the conservation and dissemination of choreographic heritage with a view to the development of choreographic culture with arts and cultural education programs, a policy of exhibitions and publications around the Cinémathèque de la danse which ensures the conservation, the development and production of filmed documents and a specialized media library, unique in the world, hosting nearly 100 collections of artists' and personalities' archives for nearly 90,000 references;
- support for the creation of choreographic works, with the provision of free studios for dance companies (470 companies hosted in 2015), and support for the dissemination of shows open to professionals and the general public.
