450 events - 80 places labeled "Musée de France" - 150 participating places - 17 places labeled houses of illustrious - 50 events for young people - 25 projects "The class, the work!" |
In Île-de-France, 450 events are organized. The public will be able to discover the "Grands décors restaurés de Notre-Dame", exhibition organized at the Mobilier national in partnership with the DRAC Île-de-France. Of the first participations as the Hôtel de la Marine, jewel of the Place de la Concorde created in the 18th century by Ange-Jacques Gabriel or the Gainsbourg House Museum. Of new labels "Maisons des Illustres" such as the Monthyon estate (Seine-et-Marne), owned by Jean-Claude Brialy, French actor, director, screenwriter and writer, or the Smith-Lesouëf Library, built at the beginning of the 20th century and restored in 2018 in Nogent-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne). The exhibitions labeled Cultural Olympiads offer a multidisciplinary artistic and cultural programme that opens up a dialogue between arts and sport. For this Night of Museums, the little night owls are not forgotten. Young people are invited to participate in a survey at the Raymond Devos House-Museum or participate in a large number of activities at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie. As part of the artistic and cultural education program "Passion for gesture", six classes from CP to CM1, patients from the Hospital des Quatre Villes (Sèvres) and residents of Maison Perce-Neige (Sèvres) made trophies to encourage the Olympic athlete of their choice. "The class, the work!" is again highlighted in the Museums of France. In Île-de-France, about twenty events are part of this artistic and cultural education operation that allows students of all ages to study throughout the school year a work or object preserved by a museum and to design a mediation that they may propose to the public during the 20th European Night of Museums.
"Great restored scenery of Notre Dame"
From April 24 to July 21, 2024, the DRAC Île-de-France and the Mobilier national offer an unprecedented look at the scenery of Notre-Dame de Paris. The public is invited to come and discover the masterpieces preserved after the fire of April 15, 2019 to contemporary pieces imagined to restore the cathedral. This exhibition highlights the work done over the past five years to restore and rethink the interior decor of the cathedral. The pictorial heritage will dialogue with the carpet of
monumental choir and with the presentation of new liturgical furniture and assizes.
An unprecedented restoration project. At the heart of the exhibition, the work and gestures of these restorers and craftsmen will be highlighted thanks to digital devices giving keys of understanding on this restoration site implemented since 2019.
The Mays of Notre Dame. The private collection, known as the "Mays" of Notre-Dame, includes paintings offered each year, from 1630 to 1707, by the corporation of goldsmiths of Paris. Scattered during the Revolution, several paintings returned to the cathedral in the 19th and 20th centuries. The fire did not cause damage to these works; all were evacuated and restored. This operation was led by the DRAC of Île-de-France, with the support of the Centre de recherche et de restauration des musées de France (C2RMF). These paintings will be shown for the first time in two centuries in the same scenography: a unique opportunity to discover these works before their relocation in the cathedral.
The choir carpet of Notre-Dame de Paris
Restored since July 2022 in the Mobilier National carpet restoration workshop, the nearly 200 m² choir carpet, commissioned by Charles X and donated by Louis-Philippe to the cathedral, is also presented to the public before joining the building at its reopening. "Create for Our Lady" The exhibition presents the contemporary creations imagined by the artist Guillaume Bardet (baptistery, altar, cathèdre, ambon and tabernacle) that will integrate the Grand décor of the cathedral at its reopening. The prototype of the new chair for the faithful, designed by Ionna Vautrin, is also on display.
For its first participation in the European Night of Museums, the Mobilier national opens, free and in the evening, the exhibition "Grands décors restaurés de Notre-Dame".
Smith-Lesouëf Library in Nogent-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne)
Built at the beginning of the 20th century on the commission of the nieces of Auguste Lesouëf, Madeleine Smith-Champion and Jeanne Smith, the Smith-Lesouëf Library housed its collections (18,000 works, including rare manuscripts and incunabula) as well as works of art and paintings, before being bequeathed to the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Restored in 2018, the Library presents a new display of art objects and paintings that belonged to Auguste Lesouëf, which are reinstalled thanks to a deposit granted by the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

Musée de la Maison Gainsbourg Paris 7e
The Musée de la Maison Gainsbourg, a new cultural institution opened in September 2023 on the initiative of Charlotte Gainsbourg, is dedicated to the transmission of the work of Serge Gainsbourg. For its first participation in the European Night of Museums, the Maison Gainsbourg invites visitors to discover the permanent route of its museum and a small temporary exhibition at the end of the route.
The museum offers a dive into the life and career of the artist through a chronological journey, from his birth in the Paris of the Roaring Twenties to his death in 1991.
Nearly 450 objects from the Maison Gainsbourg collection are gathered here: manuscripts, works, trinkets, clothes or jewelry... In front of the windows, eight screens broadcast a selection of iconic or rare archives. On these images, some of which are unpublished, Serge Gainsbourg recounts in voice-over his own trajectory.

The exhibitions labeled Cultural Olympiad
"With the Joliot-Curie, it was physical!"
The Curie Museum is located on the ground floor of the historic premises of the former Curie laboratory of the Institut du Radium - laboratory of physics and chemistry on radiation, of which Marie Curie, Frédéric and Irène Joliot-Curie were the directors and director. On the occasion of the European Night of Museums, the public can attend screenings of extracts from Joliot-Curie family films and exclusive interviews with their children.
Visitors discover the temporary exhibition "Avec les Joliot-Curie, c'était physique!" , labeled Cultural Olympiad, which traces the sporting impulses of a scientific community. These are those of the Curies, the Joliot-Curie, their collaborators and their friendly circle. Illustrated with archival photographs, including many unpublished photographs from family albums, this exhibition highlights the other unexpected passion of these researchers: outdoor sports. "Doves land of champions, 1924 - 2024"
The fame of Colombes, one of Paris' top sports venues with an international dimension, began at the end of the 19th century.
Then the 8th Olympiad transforms notoriety into posterity. A century after hosting the Olympic Games on its territory, Colombes, a new host city, values its sporting wealth.
The exhibition, centered on the swimming pool, the ice rink and the Yves-du-Manoir stadium, traces their history through the experiences of those who wrote it. The collections of the Municipal Archives and the Museum of Art and History of Colombes, enriched with loans from collectors and athletes, restore this history of more than a century whose legacy is written in 2024. Colombes, Hauts-de-Seine, exhibition from 20:30 to 23:30.

The Children’s City on a free visit
The Cité des enfants is composed of two separate exhibitions on either side of the reception hall, one for children aged 2 to 7, the other for children aged 5 to 12. Clearly delimited, these exhibitions propose issues and themes of discovery specific to each age group.

The younger ones especially like to act on things. Children’s City 2-7 years old offers five themes entirely dedicated to testing their abilities, discovering themselves, acting on things and interacting with other children: I know how to do, I discover myself, I find myself, I experiment and All together. From 5-7 years old, the child becomes autonomous and develops a certain ability to get out of his immediate environment to reason and try to explain the world around him. This physical and cognitive maturity is the cornerstone of the City of children 5-12 years. The introduction to a scientific and technical culture now makes sense.
