René Gachet was one of those pioneers of cultural development. In 1978/1979 he took the lead of the deconcentration mission that accompanied the birth of the first Regional Directorates of Cultural Affairs (DRAC). He then enthusiastically led several of these dracs, using his curiosity to discover the new territories entrusted to him.
He had finished his career in 1998, at the head of the DRAC of Ile-de-France, after having been a member of the cabinet of Jacques Toubon. Once he retired, his love of drama did not leave him: he was honorary president of the Journées de Lyon des auteurs de théâtre.
A man of convictions, René Gachet knew how to encourage artists and cultural actors with his benevolent gaze.
The minister extends her condolences to his family and loved ones.
