National Theatre of the Comic Opera
The Opéra Comique was created during the reign of Louis XIV in 1714. It is one of the oldest theatrical and musical institutions in France with the Paris Opera (formerly the Royal Academy of Music) and the Comédie-Française. By decree of 20 November 2004, the State conferred on the Théâtre national de l'Opéra Comique the status of a public industrial and commercial establishment (EPIC) and assigned to it a dual mission: the production and dissemination of lyrical works and performances, in the direction of the widest public; the enhancement of the diversity of expressions, from baroque opera to contemporary creation, and the historical repertoire of the Opéra-Comique, marked by the place of French opera.
The Théâtre national de l'Opéra Comique pursues a policy of collaboration with other opera and musical structures in France or abroad and also presents shows on tour.
Completely renovated after 22 months of work, the Salle Favart reopened in spring 2017 to allow the Théâtre national de l'Opéra Comique to fully develop its artistic and cultural project.
