Stand Read Otherwise
As part of its policy of integration of persons with disabilities, the Ministry of Culture and Communication (DGMIC, Book and Reading Service) offered the opportunity to 10 exhibitors (publishers of adapted works or national associations) working for the development of reading for people prevented from reading because of a disability, presenting their services and projects on a collective stand, entitled «Read differently».
Were present: Association Valentin Haüy, BrailleNet, Grouping of blind or amblyopic intellectuals, National Institute of Young Blind, International Visual Theatre, Fingers that dream, My golden hands, Media benjamin, French Blind Federation, City of Science and Industry (Universcience).
The stand was aimed at both the general public and book and reading professionals and had the following objectives:
> raise awareness and inform the general public and professionals about the challenges of access to the written word for audiences prevented from reading;
> to make known the adapted edition: definition, uses, publishers and broadcasters;
> publicize the Department’s work in favour of reading by audiences far from books and reading.
The stand « Read another way » was open and participatory and was a venue for demonstrations and animations towards the general public and professionals in the field of books and reading. Focusing on projects and services for audiences prevented from reading, the stand was organized in three thematic areas:
> Digital libraries division;
> French Sign Language (LSF);
> Touch, Braille & Sound pole.
