This oral archive campaign on dance teaching was conducted as part of the research program entitled History of the pedagogy of artistic creation in XXe and XXIe centuries, under the direction of Jean-Michel Leniaud, organized by the National School of Charters with the assistance of Patrick Germain-Thomas (teacher-researcher, Novancia) and led by the History Committee of the Ministry of Culture.
Between March and June 2017, eight interviews were conducted by Guillaume Sintès (lecturer in dance (EA 3402 - ACCRA, University of Strasbourg), associate researcher at the Laboratory of Discourse and Practice Analysis in Dance (EA 1572 - Musidanse University Paris 8), and Claude Sorin (professor of dance history CRR of Paris and Boulogne, researcher on the oral archives of dance) with a panel of pedagogues and former student-performers who have engaged in a career as choreographers, representing both the classical and contemporary dance sectors. The interviews with the teachers open with a short introduction summarizing the story of the career of the witnesses before taking office at the conservatory. Most of the exchange continues on their pedagogical action (conduct of a typical class), their vision of the evolution of dance teaching and student expectations, links with other sectors of the conservatory or university. Interviews with former students make it possible to address the nature of the teaching received, the effect of «class» and generation, to open up to the question of professional integration, and thus to reconstruct the path towards a creative activity.
