Created in 2017 by the Occitanie Region, the Embassy of Germany, the Groupe La Dépêche Foundation and the Germany-Occitanie association L'Europe au Cœur, the QFAO has become, over the years, an essential event in the Franco-German relationship. The Fortnight has a hundred partners and includes many economic, educational and cultural events, selected following a call for projects.
The 6th edition of the Franco-German Fortnight in Occitania closed this Thursday, April 04 in Sommières, in the presence of Michel Roussel, Regional Director of Cultural Affairs, Martin Schäfer, Chargé d'affaires a. i. of the German Embassy in France, Sébastien Denaja, Regional Councillor, Pierre Martinez, Mayor of Sommières, Marie-France Marchand-Baylet, President of the Groupe Dépêche Foundation and Richard Jarry, President of the Association Allemagne-Occitanie L'Europe au Coeur.
During these two weeks, more than 150 labeled events have marked the entire regional territory and have thus highlighted many cultural gems of Occitania.
The Drac, together with the Region and the Association Germany Occitanie l'Europe au cœur, coordinated three major projects within the Culture Committee:
- A seminar of international cooperation (France/Germany/Ukraine) around the project «Windows on the landscape» led by the conventioned Scene «Behind the Porthole» on the roads of Santiago de Compostela, which took place on March 20 and 21, punctuated by a public restitution as part of the inauguration of the QFAO, Thursday, March 21 in Millau.
- A day of conferences on Cistercian abbeys and the Franco-German comparative experience in the matter, which took place on Saturday, March 23 at the Abbey of Beaulieu-en-Rouergue.
- A Franco-German cooperation seminar on the conservation of Roman archaeological heritage, which took place on 3 and 4 April, led for its scientific part by the Regional Archaeological Service (Drac) and punctuated by a public restitution within the framework of the closing of the QFAO, on Thursday 4 April in Sommières.
