Strengthening support for artistic creation for the performing arts
allow creation despite health restrictions 2021-2022
In 2021-2022, in the context of the health crisis, the State made the choice to support artistic creation and set up, through the recovery plan, special financing to support companies. The revival in favour of live entertainment has thus made it possible to ensure artistic permanence in the territories and to strengthen the performers by supporting the residencies
To do this, in the territories, the regional cultural affairs directorates, and DRAC Normandie in particular, worked, in collaboration with the cultural structures of the territories, to identify artistic teams and promising projects, but also, the implementation of tools to support and support artistic teams in difficulty or suffering from a lack of visibility related to preventive health closures.
Depending on the companies' financial and technical situations, the Normandy DRAC has set up a support system called “Les Pépinières” to support the companies identified and offer them paid residences. Two targets: the identification of the stages and the linking of the artists and the places of creation, the assistance to the production in residence.
Thanks to this recovery plan, the companies supported by the Normandy DRAC:
- 2021: 125 companies
- 2022: 63 companies
This recovery plan has therefore allowed companies and artistic teams to bounce back and build quality projects despite health problems. Three projects will be presented on 23 and 24 November at the Halle ô grains de Bayeux, which played the role of Pépinière.

Formal and adaptive variation of Carrot Hair by Jules Renard, the story of his mother’s unloved child. This piece offers a reduced format and principles of play that immediately exclude the literal adaptation, in a direct relationship with the viewer. Flavien Bellec and Etienne Blanc, the directors, rediscover Louis Malle’s film « My dinner with Andre », for a captivating staging and an abyss of the situation and the game.
Flavien Bellec and Etienne Blanc, at the head of this emerging company, met during their training at the Master in Direction and Dramaturgy of Paris Nanterre University in 2015. Both driven by the desire to make the theatrical experience attractive and uninhibited, they develop objects that go against conventions, working on alternative forms of representation, as well as meaning. After an unclassifiable and disturbing «Flavien one man show (2019), a minimal «Antigone Puppet» (2021), «Carrot Hair, Carrot Hair» (2022) questions the world’s view of success and humiliation.

Shows without words, intended for toddlers. Seated in front of a large blank page, the spectators discover a world of paper where nothing happens and where we are bored. Then the imagination goes wild and the journey begins. Giant pop-ups, a scenography full of surprises, patterns and movements inspired by the work of Joan Miro.

Show about the fear of entering the adult world. Jonathan is stuck between adulthood and childhood. Two characters appear (puppets), an old man and a child who will push him forward without being afraid of old age.
The company A demain mon amour is a contemporary puppet theatre company created in January 2022 in Bayeux . It brings together three actors and puppeteers who met during their studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette de Charleville Mézières in 2008. They have been working together for 10 years and have created 6 shows in delegated production with the Centre National de la Marionnette Le Tas de Sable in Amiens, to which they were associated artists.

This small form emerged during the 2020 lockdown. Suspended moment during which animals have (re)invested the urban space abandoned by humans. This period inspired these tales of wisdom and animals and made resonate emotions: fear, solitude, the joy of being together.
