Surveys, photographs, templates, tools and materials highlight the techniques and gestures of artisans
The restoration work on the south tower of the Cathedral of Troyes, for an amount of €1,042,013 including taxes - a plan to stimulate the economy, was under the project management of the DRAC Grand Est and the project management of Michel Trubert, chief architect of historical monuments.
The masonry siding, sculpted elements and the south tower cover suffered from weather and weather-related degradation.
For 18 months, a dozen companies intervened on the various phases of the construction site, bringing together many trades: architects, scaffolders, security coordinator, construction economist, archaeologists, masons, stonemasons, sculptors, carpenters, roofers...
Development of know-how
Thanks to the DRAC’s installation of a double-span scaffolding, the public (school and general public) was able to access the site, with nearly 2,000 people (1,000 adults and 950 children) taking part in guided tours or arts and cultural education workshops.
This exhibition, organized by the Maison de l'Outil et de la Pensée Ouvrière and the Grand Est Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs, is part of this effort to highlight know-how, the desire to make people discover, from the inside the work of these artisans who work to restore heritage, in order to make these trades known to young people.
The photographs and elements gathered in this exhibition make it possible to discover the site in all its facets, and to admire original sculpted elements that usually culminate at meters of height.
