The fall of glasses and lead did not cause additional damage.
After observation on the spot and in order to ensure the safety of the public, the architect of the buildings of France, head of the Departmental Unit of architecture and heritage of the Marne (UDAP) / Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs Grand Est and Single Head of Security of the Cathedral, requested an early closure of the building.
Monday morning, February 17, the building was re-opened, with a security perimeter, the first bays of the nave being closed to the public.
The bay concerned is a high bay located on the north facade, 2nd bay.
Start of restoration work on Monday, March 2, 2020
After a security and damage analysis, the Departmental Unit of Architecture and Heritage (UDAP) of the DRAC Grand Est will proceed to its restoration.
Work will begin on Monday, March 2, 2020, for a period of two weeks.
The current security perimeter, inside the nave, will remain active until the end of the intervention.
A scaffolding (Léon Noël company) will be installed directly on the cathedral, 20 meters high, on the exterior corridor, in front of the west lancet of Bay 137.
The equipment will be brought through the oculi of the south tower (west facade on the forecourt), resulting in the closure of the corresponding entrance for one day at the beginning and another at the end of the work.
The intervention of the master glassmaker (Bruno Pigeon) will consist in the removal of the damaged panel, then in its temporary closure in alveolar plastic.
The panel will be replaced after replacement of the missing glasses and repair.
