Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Culture, expresses his emotion at the news of the death of Jacques Amalric, journalist, former director of the newspaper’s «foreign» service Le Monde and former editor of Liberation.
Born in Montauban in 1938, Jacques Amalric was a warm accent, an honesty without blush and, as all those who had the pleasure of working alongside him recognize, a true nature.
In 1963, he joined the America «desk» of the newspaper’s foreign service Le Monde, which he will eventually lead from 1979.
Special envoy of the World in Washington and then in Moscow, he is passionate about analyzing these two “super powers”, their respective ideological worlds and the power of ideas in the service of political action.
Editor in chief at WorldIn 1993, he became a columnist, then editor-in-chief and finally editor of the Liberation until his retirement in 2002.
Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin extends her condolences to Jacques Amalric’s family and friends, and to all those who crossed his path and learned from him.
