The exhibition «Les vitrines de l'atelier des artistes en exil», organized with the association l'atelier des artistes en exil (aa-e), will be presented until March 30, 2018 at the Ministry of Culture, in the galleries of the Palais-Royal at 5 rue de Valois.
Like so many windows on the realities of the world, the exhibition "Les vitrines de l'atelier des artistes en exil" invites us to open our eyes, to understand the imperative that impels women, men and children to start, to choose exile and to its trials, and to understand the distress that can seize them upon their arrival.
Coming from Afghanistan, Iran, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Syria, the fifteen artists presented tend to the world of mirrors. Their works explore the intimate depths of the notions of dignity and humanity; they question the fundamental principles of the right to asylum.
The workshop of artists in exile (aa-e), a unique structure in France, has the mission to identify artists in exile of all origins, all disciplines combined, to accompany them with regard to their situation and their artistic and administrative needs, to offer them spaces of work and professional demonstration in order to offer them the means to structure and practice their practice. Judith Depaule and Ariel Cypel, representatives of the association aa-e, were present this day at the opening, alongside the artists exhibited.
' By offering a place to artists in exile, in the windows of this ministry, we do nothing more than draw the thread of a long tradition. Culture in France knows no borders Françoise Nyssen, 29 January 2018.
