I am saddened to learn of the demise of VelyneChat.
For several decades, Évelyne Chat, with her inseparable husband Philippe, disappeared at the end of 2012, embodied a page inspired by the cultural and artistic life of Fontenay-sous-Bois.
Both have made this city one of the centres of visual creation, a veritable open-air laboratory for the most diverse explorations of graphic design, of which they have brilliantly illustrated one of the trends: the graphic design of ideas.
Through many events they have generously organized – such as the “Galeru”, a new exhibition mode, the “Graphisme dans la rue” festival, the poster contest against violence against women or the commissioning of artists' benches – they will have brought to fruition an idea that was at the same time a collective practice: that of public utility graphics.
For two years, Évelyne Chat continued working alone with her husband. There is no doubt that the younger generations will be eager to continue on the path they have begun.
I extend my deepest condolences to his children and loved ones.
