Online catalogues of collections: museums of France
Some museums in France are no longer content to put their few masterpieces online. Many choose to widely disseminate their collections.
Collective catalogues
The collective catalogue of museums in France – Joconde base, currently being set up, aims to list the exhaustiveness of the collections of museums in France, objects on display or in reserve, whatever their nature (painting, sculptures, etc.), their domain (archaeology, fine arts, ethnology, etc.), their time.
There are also municipal catalogues (Angers, Paris, Strasbourg, Toulouse), departmental catalogues (Aude, Isère, Vaucluse) and regional catalogues (Centre-Val-de-Loire, Hauts-de-France, Normandy, Nouvelle Aquitaine).
Individual catalogues
About a hundred museums in France offer a significant number of objects from their collections on their own site, most of the time in the form of databases, usually abundantly illustrated.
A wide distribution
These various catalogues are not exclusive. You can find some works both on the Mona Lisa base and on the museum site, or on the museum site and on a regional base, or on the museum site, on a regional base and on Mona Lisa.
A repertoire enriched regularly
As it is not easy to know these different digital catalogues a priori, we offer you a directory. This directory is updated periodically. However, if you notice any inactive links, or missing museums, please feel free to report it to us.
