Les Rencontres Scène Jeunesse are a national event organized by the South Inter-regional Directorate for Judicial Protection of Youth and the Herault Territorial Directorate, with financial support from the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
Born in 2000 under the aegis of the Culture/Justice Interdepartmental Protocol, the event has now taken on a national scale and welcomes every year for three days in June a hundred young people from all over France. They present workshops, shows and exhibitions worked in the year, with professional artists, their educators. This event takes place on the domain of Roussières, made available by the Departmental Council of Hérault. The Passe Muraille, an association in charge of logistics coordination since 2010, ensures the artistic programming and coordination of the event in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Culture.
This event allows participants to take a positive look at themselves in terms of valuing and surpassing themselves. This national event is above all an educational medium, an opportunity for young people followed to express their creativity with professional artists, but also to enhance their action in front of an audience. Art is used here to encourage young people to express their emotions while working their oral, written and bodily expression, and to make them evolve towards a project of insertion.
The objectives of the event are multiple:
- To provoke encounter, creativity and exchange To promote values such as mutual aid and collective work
- Welcome and accompany artistic presentations in the best conditions
- Engage artists and stakeholders on youth workshops
- Live moments of sharing, respect and solidarity
- Creating moments that bring people together
- Creating vocations, generating desires
- Promoting the social and vocational integration of young people
Due to the health crisis, the 2020 edition, on the theme «from tradition to modernity» had to be cancelled, at the same time as the 20th anniversary of the RSJ that will be postponed to 2022.
In order to adapt to the health context, the 2021 edition had to be rethought: to link the event to current events and the evocation of the construction of a world after, the theme chosen was «2121: the odyssey of the Arts». Young people were thus able to project themselves into the art of tomorrow, through an imaginary journey on the evolution of the arts that resulted in the creation of two collective artistic works, mobilizing about a hundred young people from all over France: a choreographic project with choreographer Sadek Waff, and writing workshops on the theme «Portraits de jeunesse» with La Bouillonnante Company.
The artists started a tour of France in the services of the PJJ and went to meet the young people. The video presentation below was made to reflect their work.
