Roquefort-les-Pins - Pôle Images: community media library and cinema
Roquefort-les-Pins 06 330 – Alpes Maritimes Population: 6,400 Area: 21.53 km²
Why build a pole images?
A communal media library (400 m²) already exists in Roquefort-les-Pins since 2005 at the cultural center the WelcomeThis includes an adult and child section, a multimedia space and a story space for a total of 17,913 documents.
The Images project was launched by the Sophia Antipolis Community Council (CASA) in 2010. The main objective is to strengthen the cultural offer by bringing together the media library, the former town hall turned cinema Blue Flag, to which will be added a new room of 300 seats.
The purpose of this space will therefore be to develop the cinematographic influence of Roquefort-les-Pins in neighbouring municipalities that currently have no cinema. It will promote the dissemination of films called "mainstream" as well as films more focused on heritage. The creation of a place of art and essay is also in the minds in order to develop the cultural policies of the pole. Partnerships will therefore be created with the different audiences in order to propose specific programs according to each project.
Direction of the pole
For architects, the aim of this image centre is to bring together the media library, the Blue flag, and the new movie theater.
This work is all the more difficult to build because the two structures already built have no common architectural characteristics. The connection between these three buildings (media library, old and new cinemas) will be identified by a single-storey volume in the form of a "T". In addition to housing the future forum of images, this space will be the main entrance of the cultural pole. The area will double in size and will now be accessible through several entrances in each space of the pole. This last point is one of the strong arguments of the architects because it allows the inhabitants of the commune to go from one point to another of the village by crossing this cultural center.
The media library and the image centre
The communal media library will henceforth be a community media library; it is part of the three media libraries deployed on the territory by CASA. It will play an important and strategic role by proposing animations around the theme of 7th art. Its programming will be linked and adapted to those of exhibitions and cinema; thus, conferences and thematic evenings will be offered. Audiovisual workshops will be organized for school and college students. Its objectives are therefore to disseminate a film culture and to participate in image education. CASA will make available to the municipality a selection of documentary, multimedia and audiovisual holdings in order to increase the film culture. 2,000 to 3,000 DVDs, 300 documentary books, and several subscriptions to film magazines will be added to the reading offer already present in the media library.
