Inventories of movable objects of churches champardennaises and pre-inventory stained glass twentieth century
The DRAC Grand Est supports scientific initiatives aimed at deepening knowledge of regional heritage.
Inventories of movable objects of the churches of the territory of Champardennais
The inventories of the movable objects of the churches detailed below were carried out between 2002 and today.
They are accessible via the site of the Grand Est region and via the database of the Ministry of Culture "Palissy", which lists the French movable heritage.
The purpose of the census of movable objects contained in churches is:
- to check the health status of the works and the sanitary conditions under which they are kept;
- support the management and restoration of works;
- to combat the theft and trafficking of works through a detailed knowledge of heritage;
- to provide a knowledge tool for researchers (art history...) and to stimulate studies/research programme on regional heritage;
- to participate in the development of the territory through cultural and tourist development.
The inventory consists of:
- fact sheets using the Descriptive System of the General Inventory of Heritage / Ministry of Culture;
- digital photographs of objects associated with a geographical information system.
This concerns all the furniture of churches, whether or not it is protected as a historical monument.
Finally, these inventories are also an opportunity to describe the buildings and assess the conservation conditions they propose.
Inventory of movable objects of the churches of the department of Aube (2002 - 2005)
This census of all the furniture of churches in the department of Aube (10) was carried out in 3 years, from 2002 to 2005.
New and innovative at the time, this project made it possible to gather, in an electronic database, all the data collected as part of a vast collection and complementary inventory operation, conducted on a departmental scale.
An operation financed at parity by the State/ DRAC, the Region and the Department of Aube, under the State/ Region Plan Contract, conducted under project management of the department.
422 municipalities were surveyed in 550 buildings. All records (objects and buildings) are illustrated with more than 32,000 images.
Since 2014, the inventory has been transferred to a new computer tool, managed by the Grand Est Region "Gertrude".
The database has been completely redesigned, and the updates, resulting from new research, are gradually integrated.
The search is done by municipalities (maps), cantons and by building.

This inventory includes sculptures, paintings, altarpieces, silverware, religious furniture, cult objects, tumulary slabs, textiles (liturgical clothing, banners, etc.). Properties not belonging to local authorities were exceptionally taken into account, in particular the property of diocesan associations.
The stained glass windows are excluded from the inventory, as well as the decor worn, and the furniture of the Cathedral of Langres...
In total, nearly 12,000 objects are listed on the base, spread over 530 localities (and 390 municipalities) and 625 buildings.
All the records (objects and buildings) are illustrated with nearly 51,500 images.
.
In 2014, the inventory was transferred to a new computer tool, managed by the Grand Est Region.

Inventory of movable objects of churches in the Ardennes department (2011 - 2014)
Conducted in 3 years, from 2011 to 2014, this census made it possible to inventory more than 10,600 objects in 600 buildings.
The organ inventory was also carried out, including the instrumental part, the Ardennes being the only one of the four departments of the territory of Champagne where this inventory had not been completed in the 1980s.
The series of works (statuary, cross roads, goldsmiths) were identified and grouped, as far as possible, by manufacturer.
An operation financed by the State/ DRAC, the region and the Ardennes department, under project management of the Grand Est region.

Inventory of movable objects of the cathedral of Reims
550 objects inventoried, protected or not as historical monuments, preserved in the cathedral, in its sacristies and in the Palais du Tau have been inventoried.
The inventory was made thanks to the analysis of the bibliography from the heritage media library, the Carnegie library in Reims and the iconographic resources of the documentary databases. Many objects that are not located or have been destroyed are also populated. Each object is illustrated.

Pre-inventory of the XX windowse century (after 1945) on the territory of Champardennais
The territory of the Champagne-Ardenne (Ardennes, Aube, Marne and Haute-Marne) is one of the most richly equipped with old windows, from the twelfth to the sixteenth century. The decline, begun in the years 1600-1620, will slow down in the XIXe century, with the great restoration campaigns and the creation of great workshops.
After the Second World War, the region became one of the great centres of contemporary stained glass art.
Part of the cultural component of the 4th State-Region Plan, signed in 2000, "the enhancement of the architectural heritage around targeted themes: stained glass, statuary, fortified architecture" will allow the emergence of many projects around the stained glass (restoration, creation, publications, exhibitions), as well as a pre-registration of the Champagne-Ardenne stained glass window made between 1945 and 2005, not exhaustive, it aimed to be a document of discovery.
