Organized on the occasion of the 30the the anniversary of the death of André Malraux, this day organized by the History Committee was intended to recall the actions of the Minister of State for Cultural Affairs in the field of architecture and in the one that has since become, to analyse in the writer’s work the place occupied by the building, the monument, how the Malrucian sensibility can explain the orientations of the public man.
Specialists have worked to analyze the place of sacred architecture in his writings, to decipher his speeches of the Senate and the National Assembly from the literary angle. The emergence of the notion of 20th century heritage in the protection of historical monuments, the architecture of houses of culture, the development of safeguarded sectors and the restoration of Parisian facades, the reform of architecture education, the 20th century museum project by Le Corbusier and then Wogensky, Malraux’s friendship with Jean Faugeron, all subjects that highlighted affinities and correspondences between man, writer and minister.
