In 1918, Emile Ladan-Bockairy and his wife bought a property belonging to the philosopher Excavated. They invited their friend Ferdinand Bac (1859-1952), cartoonist, decorator, painter, ironworker, writer and landscape architect, to rebuild and enlarge the villa. Its design is based on ancient references and memories of trips to Mediterranean countries. Around the house, Bac also designs the garden, rich in factories, pavilions, colonnades, bridges and other secret gardens. Bac settled permanently in Colombières and ended his days there. The mausoleum built on a rock overlooking the garden contains the tombs of three friends.
