Companion device
Companionship assistance
The buddy system was set up in 2008 by the Ministry of Culture (theatre delegation of the Directorate General for Artistic Creation/ DGCA). Its purpose is to promote the transmission and professional integration within theatre companies, puppets, circus, street and speech arts.
Companionship is a process of accompaniment allowing, in a given time of the order of a season, the organization of sequences of exchanges, work and checks between an artistic team and a companion, young director or author. The elaboration of a timetable detailing these working, exchange and porosity times must thus be the pivot element of any search for an inscription in the companion device.
This device is of primary interest in terms of professionalization of artistic teams and even support for emergence. It cannot be assimilated to a production aid, or a text order, even if it incorporates these purposes.
Trans-regional exchanges will have to be sought, particularly in the overseas regions.
The scheme comprises two types of aid:
- the plateau companionship : the request must come from a company contracted by the State* with a place (in its own right or at its disposal), and suitable working means. However, may also be eligible on proposal of the DRAC-DAC concerned companies not benefiting from such a convention, but proposing a project carried by an artist or a confirmed team on the condition that they work in the field of gesture arts, mime and storytelling; or they are located in the overseas departments
- the companionship authors : the application may originate from a company under State contract * or from a company that received aid for the DRAC-DAC project in the three years preceding the application*
*As part of the 2015 decree and decree on decentralized aids to live entertainment.
This scheme is coordinated at national level by the Directorate-General for Artistic Creation. However, applications must pass through the DRAC-CARs on which “welcoming” companies depend. After examination and selection at national level, the aided companies are subsidised on the basis of decentralised credits.
