Regional Conservation of Historical Monuments (CRMH) of Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The regional conservation of historic monuments is responsible, in application of the Heritage Code, for the protection of monumental and movable heritage, its conservation, maintenance, restoration and enhancement. A team composed of administrative secretaries, financial managers, documentary studies officers, technicians of cultural services and buildings of France, engineers of cultural services and heritage and heritage curators, contributes to the performance of these tasks.
The Conservation régionale des monuments historiques (CRMH) is working with:
- chief architects of historic monuments
- of architects of buildings in France
- curators of antiques and works of art
In the field of protection, it carries out the census, documents and studies the monumental and movable heritage. As such, hear applications for protection of historic monuments and it drives national and regional themes concerning heritage that is still poorly protected (heritage of the XXe century, hospital and public administration heritage, river heritage, heritage of the Great War,...). In addition, it maintains the documentation on protected heritage and It ensures the knowledge in the context of development projects and works projects.
The service regularly updates the health status of the 6115 protected buildings in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the collection of 20,000 protected furniture, as well as the monitoring of the 58 remarkable gardens.
In the field of maintenance, conservation and restoration, the service exercises scientific and technical control of the work on classified and listed buildings and objects. In this capacity, he assists public and private contracting authorities in drawing up the scientific and technical specifications for the studies and accompanies the implementation of the work. Furthermore, hear all applications for authorization of regulatory work.
Moreover, the department is responsible for the works on the 52 monuments belonging to the State and assigned to the Ministry of Culture, including the cathedrals of Agen, Angoulême, Aire-sur-Adour, Bayonne, Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Limoges, Périgueux, Poitiers and Tulle and the Pont Transbordeur du Martrou in Rochefort-sur-Mer.
The State budget support for the conservation and restoration of heritage currently amounts to 25M€ for the entire region. In this context, the service shall draw up the budget schedule for the work on listed historic monuments, buildings, gardens, movable objects, organs and country heritage, taking into account health emergencies.
As regards valuation, the service designs, encourages and supports any action of knowledge and dissemination of heritage (publications, exhibitions, conferences).
To carry out these missions, the CRMH of Nouvelle-Aquitaine is present on the 3 sites of the DRAC (Bordeaux, Limoges and Poitiers) with a complete operational chain, from protection to works, and combining all expertise.
