She had made the Théâtre de Poche a well-known and recognized institution, which she directed for more than half a century. Renée DELMAS, director of the Théâtre de Poche in Paris, died on March 31, at the age of 94.
In 1956, she was only 25 years old when her father offered her the Théâtre de Poche, a small Parisian theatre with just over 100 seats. From the beginning, with her future husband and travelling companion Étienne Bierry, she had decided to dedicate it to theatrical creation.
Until the acquisition of the Théâtre de Poche in 2011, Renée DELMAS accompanied many French and foreign artists, some of whom she helped reveal: playwrights like Eugène Ionesco, Lee Hall or Romain Weingarten; directors like Claude Régy, Georges Vitaly or his daughter Marion Bierry; actors and actresses, including Catherine Rich, Danièle Delorme and Guillaume de Tonquédec.
Committed tirelessly to her small private theatre, Mrs Renée DELMAS had also staged the creation of After the Rain by Sergi Belbel, obtaining the Molière 1999 for the Best Comedy Play.
I extend my condolences to his family and loved ones.
