Franck Riester, Minister of Culture, is mobilizing €20 million from the beginning of July in favour of «the cultural summer», for projects that will run until September.
In parallel with a permanent and intense work to accompany the reopening of all cultural places, the Minister of Culture wished to encourage all proposals allowing exchanges between artists and inhabitants everywhere in the territory, both metropolitan and ultra-marine.
“After three difficult months, the summer is set to bring together the French and the cultural life, artists, works and inhabitants of the territories. During these two summer months, I hope that each and everyone, whatever their situation, will be able to share strong cultural moments and rediscover the artistic and heritage richness of France.” Franck Riester, Minister of Culture.
At a time when it is not yet possible to visit cultural venues everywhere and for everyone, it is a question of enabling summer 2020 to be a “cultural summer” with two main objectives:
- To support artists, especially the youngest and most vulnerable among them, by financing creation and dissemination activities and by enabling them to meet the inhabitants.
- To propose to the French and visitors to reconnect with a cultural offer that is no longer intangible but physical, and to meet the works and artists, in multiple formats.
Each Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs, and Directorate and Mission for Cultural Affairs in Corsica and the Overseas Territories, will be responsible, in cooperation with local actors and local authorities, for mobilizing and supporting, in particular financially, the entire cultural network so that projects can be launched throughout the territory. The national operators of the Ministry of Culture will also be mobilized and will propose numerous projects, including outside the walls, in partnership with local authorities.
These projects should make it a priority to address young people, their families, the most vulnerable people and those who will be prevented from going on holiday by the crisis. Particular attention will be paid to the city’s political districts, as well as to rural areas.
The map of all cultural and creative places reopened is available on the #culturecheznous platform since May 22. This map will also soon be available as a geolocated mobile application. This application will highlight a dozen places to visit in each region.
