With the support of the Ministry of Culture, Michel Poivert, art historian, professor and director of the art history department at the University Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, published in November 2019 the book «50 ans de photographie française de 1970 à nos jours» to Textuel Publishing.
On March 5, 2020 the Ministry of Culture inaugurates an exhibition presenting the work of about forty photographers from this book. Through 25 tarpaulins installed at the National Domain of the Palais-Royal, and three generations of photographers, the ministry offers the general public the discovery of a half-century of contemporary French photography.
Without favouring a particular style or subject, this selection draws an image of France and the diversity of French society since the end of the Thirty Glorious, and reflects the inscription of French photographers in the world. It also highlights the agencies and collectives that have structured photography over the past 50 years (Magnum Photos, Agence VU', Signatures and Tendance Floue)
' I am pleased that the Ministry of Culture is organizing this unique photographic exhibition, presenting the names of photography that make up our precious artistic heritage. Open to all and free, it carries high the missions of the ministry: promoting artists in the diversity of their career, respect for the parity erected as a major issue, promotion of the French artistic scene and accessibility of art to all. » Franck Riester, Minister of Culture
