Marcel Notargiacomo, a figure of hip-hop dance, has left us.
Born in Villeurbanne, in the Lyon region, Marcel Notargiacomo began his career in the 1970s in the cultural and educational structures of the city of Vénissieux, at the Boris Vian cultural centre, at the Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture, then as director of the inter-communal youth service.
Assistant, in the Minguettes district, to demonstrations of break dance young people who take up the movements of dancers from the United States, he decides to accompany the development of these practices and works to bring hip-hop dance closer to institutional and political structures. In 1984, he founded the company Traction Avant, a pioneer in the development and professionalization of hip-hop dance in France, which contributes directly to the training and emergence of many dancers.
Marcel Notargiacomo was a tireless social and cultural worker, as well as an ardent defender of dance with strong humanist values. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.
