In accordance with the Heritage Code, the protection and conservation of historic monuments and heritage and landscape sites are at the heart of the action of the State services. Advising and supporting projects are their priorities based on knowledge and expertise.
This chapter presents the criteria and procedures for protecting a historic monument, whether it is a building, a movable object, or a space and then the steps to be taken in case of work.
Advice and expertise are at the heart of the scientific and technical control of the services in charge of historic monuments for the benefit of protected properties, their owners or project promoters.
Studies, works and development projects can benefit from subsidies within the limits of the budgetary means of the State and certain fiscal arrangements are applicable to historical monuments and remarkable heritage sites.
In the event of failure to comply with procedures or damage to protected property, administrative or criminal sanctions are provided for by the Heritage Code, the Urban Planning Code and the Penal Code.
