Plastic arts
The Department of Fine Arts implements at the regional level the policy of the State to promote creation, its diffusion and training in the field of living creation in all its forms: plastic arts, photography, design, graphics, crafts.
The DRAC’s visual arts department supports artists, cultural actors and local authorities who wish to develop projects in this field, by providing them with information, advice, expertise and evaluation.

Higher education and research
The PACA region is rich in 6 higher art schools, 4 territorial schools (EPCC) and 2 national schools.
As part of the reform of higher education, higher art schools became, in 2011, Public Institutions of Cultural Cooperation (EPCC) by prefectural decrees.
Their main mission is to participate in the public service of higher art education under the conditions provided for in the Code of Education and the regulatory texts governing the organization of higher education in plastic arts under supervision or control state educational.
They have acquired the legal autonomy allowing them to deliver the national diplomas in plastic arts provided for in the European scheme of higher education including the National Higher Diploma of Plastic Expression (DNSEP), placing it at the degree of master, opening up to its students the global area of European higher arts education.
Two schools offer specific features:
- The École supérieure d'art d'Avignon proposes two orientations:
. Creation-establishment,
. Conservation-restoration.
- The Ecole supérieure d'art et de design de Marseille, designated a "pilot site" by the Ministry of Culture and Communication, has developed the "Pilab Création" programme, which gives deaf and hearing-impaired students access to art studies.
National schools:
- Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie in Arles
- Villa Arson in Nice
Territorial Schools - COEC:
- Ecole supérieure d'art Félix Ciccolini in Aix en Provence (ESA Félix Ciccolini)
- Ecole supérieure d'art et de design Marseille-Méditerranée (ESADMM)
- Ecole supérieure d'art de Toulon-Provence-Méditérranée (ESART-PM)
- Ecole supérieure d'art à Avignon (ESAA)
