Micro-Funds
Micro-Food: an innovative cultural device, serving territories.
Supported by the State, supervised by the Ministry of Culture and accompanied by La Villette, the Micro-Folie device consists in integrating a Digital Museum at the heart of an already existing equipment. Additional modules – such as a FabLab, virtual reality stations, or a stage space – can complement the Micro-Food offering. Located as close as possible to the inhabitants, these local cultural platforms are a real tool for the Arts and Cultural Education (EAC). With a stated ambition to deploy 1,000 Micro-Funds across the country by 2022, this device is destined to be sustainable.
Democratization and BEC: a tool at the service of users
The Digital Museum, a common component of all the Micro-Funds of the network, allows everyone to discover the masterpieces brought together by the partner institutions within digitized thematic collections in very high definition. Thanks to the large screen, tablets and sound system, all artistic forms can be showcased. In addition, Micro-Funds are available in fixed and itinerant versions, to move ever closer to the public.
The presence of a mediator to animate this device is essential. Indeed, the articulation between the digital museum, the other modules that make up the Micro-Foundation, and especially the local cultural content is the keystone of the device’s success. The mediator of a Micro-Fund ensures this privileged link with the public and the territory. Partnerships with the cultural and social fabric of the Micro-Funds are strongly encouraged, as well as actions aimed at the school public as part of the EAC pathway.
Host a Micro-Fund in your territory:
It only takes a space of 40 to 60 m² to host a digital museum. Its minimum cost is around €40,000, and can evolve according to the desired modules. The financing plan for its installation can be accompanied by the Prefectures or local authorities. In addition, Micro-Food is an eligible feature of the Small Town of Tomorrow program. Dedicated calls for projects may exist, and the AMI «Fabrique de Territoire» also represents an opportunity. Micro-Food is at the crossroads of various territorial and social operations conducted by the State services.
The support provided by La Villette allows project leaders and Micro-Funds of the network to access a set of shared resources, ranging from the design to the animation of this place of life accessible to all.

In addition to these open Micro-Funds, there are about 20 ongoing projects. The Prefect of the Region has been particularly invested in the deployment of the scheme throughout the regional territory and has launched a dedicated call for projects. The latter will allow the installation of 18 Micro-Folies very soon. The Département des Alpes Maritimes, in its territory, is also involved in setting up a specific grant for investment aid for the Micro-Fund digital museum. By 2022, every resident of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region should find a Micro-Food close to home.
