THE ILLUSTRIOUS AND THE HOUSE
Francesco Petrarca (1304-1374), francized in «François Pétrarque», is an Italian poet and humanist. He is the author of «Canzionere», a major poetic work in which he expresses his love for Laure, whom he met in Avignon. This scholar had for masters Cicero, Virgil and Saint Augustine and will be inspired in each of his compositions. He moved to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse in 1338, far from worldly life and decided to devote himself to solitude, poetry and reflection. The François Pétrarque Museum presents today a collection of drawings and prints on Petrarch of great wealth, as well as ancient editions of the poet’s works.
