Construction sites of young volunteers in Paca
The setting up of youth volunteer sites is decided at regional level on the basis of consultation between the decentralized departments of the Ministries of National Education and Youth (DRJSCS), Culture (DRAC), Environment (DREAL), the Regional Council and certain Departmental Councils, after presentation of projects by the organizing associations of sites. The coordination of the associations is organized by the Regional Commission of Associations of Shipyards (CORAC), a network that brings together all the organizing associations of young volunteer shipyards in Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur.
For many years, the Ministry of Culture has been encouraging the work of young heritage restoration volunteers organized by the associations through financial and technical support. It intends, through their mobilization around concrete actions, to promote the awareness of young people to safeguard the national architectural heritage and prepare them for an exercise of citizenship.
The regional conservation of historical monuments subsidizes, together with the other services of the State and the local authorities, the associations organizing volunteer sites.
The youth site allows to:
. to foster meetings and exchanges between young people,
. develop international solidarity,
. carrying out projects that are useful to the community,
. designing the project in an educational dimension that is part of a popular education approach,
. restoring a site, developing a living environment, upgrading a place and its reuse by its inhabitants as part of local development.
The site is open to the life of a neighbourhood, a village or a city in connection with the local environment.
The projects of young volunteers ensure a quality technical supervision by competent animators.
The minimum age required varies according to the associations: 14, 16, 18, with no upper age limit for most construction sites.
