François Beaune
Laureate of the literary residency La Marelle 2013 in Marseille.
François Beaune is a writer born in Clermont-Ferrand in 1978. He now lives in Marseille. After having been a curator of collective art exhibitions, a press correspondent and having created the festival «Du cinéma à l'envers», he embarked on all kinds of «shady activities». In fact, he founded an art magazine (Shady), a cabaret show (The Majestic Louche Palace), a website for the misappropriation of press clippings (squid) and a digital serial (The Good News of Jacques Dauphin). In addition, he created a second journal (La Cocotte), wrote an unpublished play (Victoria) and created a collective fanzine (Gonzo).
François Beaune’s writing is disturbing. His characters, always suspicious and introverted, surprise us with their observations on the human being. The author seeks to provoke a reaction in the reader. Like a mirror, his books reflect our worst defects, our anxieties and our sorrows. François Beaune carries out a real multiform experiment, his writing being always accompanied by side projects. His sometimes delusional sense of humour and critical thinking accentuate the strange atmosphere of his works.
His fame comes from his first novel, A suspicious manpublished in 2009 by Verticas. In 2011, published in the same editions A black angel, result of his residence in Manosque produced by The Correspondences.
His latest project, in partnership with Marseille Provence 2013 and amplified by his residency in La Marelle, is a collection of «true stories» collected during his one-year journey in twelve Mediterranean ports. The result is The moon in the well, written through his logbook.
