Emmanuel Adely
As part of the network of residencies in the regional territory supported by the State, the Mouans-Sartoux festival has launched the third edition of its writing residency. The 2014 winner is the writer Emmanuel Adely who will publish in 2014 at the editions Inculte, "The Very Upsetting Confession of the man who shot down the greatest son of a bitch that the earth bore".
Workshops
For several years I have been conducting writing workshops: in prison settings (detention centres in Beauvais, Melun, Bordeaux), in artistic or professional settings (Merlan theatre, Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, frac d'Alsace, video editing, Maison G à La Roche-sur-Yon), and in school (Lycée Jeanne Hachette in Beauvais, Evariste Galois College in Epinay, Westhoek College in Dunkerque…).
In a prison setting, as in a school setting, sometimes with first-time immigrants like in Angers, I was confronted with “writers” who were not necessarily francophone and for whom access to writing was problematic.
In these multiple experiments, I discovered each time a freedom of tone and stylistic inventiveness (often due to syntactic turns from their own language and grammar) surprisingly creative and truly innovative.
My presence and my support are always profoundly maïeutiques, thus simply but totally participating in the birth of the texts, their structuring, and even their publication in the case of the Frac d'Alsace, as of the Collège de Dunkerque.
In Mouans-Sartoux, it could consider writing modules around the problem of "I, tu, il" that is to say the way a story is written differently depending on whether it is said by a narrator, by a demiurge, or in the address to the reader, but also workshops around the theme of the invention of the character, how we discover it, how we make it live.
To envisage that this time spent together allows everyone to create a story, to understand that writing, above all, is accessible to all.
Encounters
Encounters can be a reading, a questionnaire, a dialogue, a presentation, a panorama, for example of contemporary literature because I like to share what I read, which - to use the phrase of Florence Delay - gives me breath (the classic), or takes my breath away (the modern); sharing what I also write, an experience, a stubbornness, a desire: it can take many aspects because the book is not limited to the paper object, it is an experience of discovery more and more fragile, Increasingly tenuous in the face of the acceleration of activities, entertainment, of this generalized zapping against which the book remains absolutely valid, and strong, and this affirms.
Sharing it, whether it is with "sums" whose form surprisingly seduced college and high school students undoubtedly for its accumulation of stories that can - or not - form only one, or with my next novel that comes out this month-here at Inculte, and whose form of ballad and apparent crudity employ contemporary codes to resist.
Scriptures
Writing is one way of understanding the other, of saying the other, of being the other (one moment - all the time).
Because life is not enough. a life is not enough to be oneself.
Being who I am not, a stranger to myself, is one of the engines of my scriptures: exhausting (in the Perequien sense of the word) the world - being all of its living: all those I could have been (cf once again "are", 2009).
I am working on a text entitled (currently) "the world is all that takes place", which would be the crucible of all the lived experiences, crossed, crossed by each other and by the now constant and constituent dimension of the virtual, of this other possible and parallel world that profoundly modifies our perception of reality: who am I to play a role play or a war game, am I the same who triggers the shooting of a drone, who kills, who loves, who manipulates financial flows, that touches each other’s skin…
It is a work of daily gathering of information certainly, but also of sensations, of encounters, to return to what Europe has forgotten, a form that Europe has lost: that of the epic, to try this experience. enter it. discover… no matter what, except the astonishment of this other familiar and impenetrable.
So it’s fragile. It’s ongoing. It’s ongoing. I totally do not know what this stay would allow in terms of text, otherwise this increase of sources, of flows, it would be above all an impregnation out of me, since this is where I feed and what feeds me. then probably this immersion would give birth to something else. something else.
An increase in life.
