Mouans-Sartoux - Writer’s residence
Since 2012, the association of the Cedar Cultural Center of Mouans-Sartoux organizes once a year in partnership with the DRAC PACA a three-month writer’s residency at the same time as the Book Festival.
For Mouans-Sartoux, the cultural development of the city is essential. It is part of an active citizenship process. Throughout the year, several activities are proposed, either permanent or ad hoc, some of which focus on reading. In fact, a genuine book policy was built at the heart of Mouansoise life.
Thus, every year, at the beginning of October, the Book Festival of Mouans-Sartoux. This cultural event, which has existed since 1988, is spread over three days and is now the first regional event, in terms of volume, around books. At each edition, the festival brings together more than 200 publishers and booksellers, 300 authors, as well as 50,000 visitors who exchange on a theme often related to cultural and social news that makes us reflect on the contemporary world. Today, this festival has acquired a national reputation.
In addition, Mouans-Sartoux is equipped with a cultural hub bringing together a media library and a cinema, emblematic place of the city. It reflects its desire to spread culture. The city claims to be a place of encounters, creativity, education and cultural abundance. The media library brings together different spaces: adult, youth, multimedia, music & cinema, Provencal collections & archives.
From this landscape marked by the sure presence of the book comes the creation in 2012 of a writer’s residence. This project «allowed to develop over a long period multiple animations within the city». In addition, " this residence was also an opportunity to bring books and writing to life outside the Book Festival, to root them even more in the social fabric and to involve the various institutions of the city in a lasting way.” Its objectives are “the promotion of book culture, the involvement of local stakeholders and the exchange with the public.”
For the first time in 2012, the residence welcomes Emmanuelle Pagano around her writing project based on the packaging of perfume. It then has the opportunity to finalize its collection of news Let’s tie ” and write another, “ Night light ”, which will be added to a collection on the theme of boxes.
In 2013, it was writer Céline Curiol who became a resident. She wanted to develop a narrative around loss of self and depression.
A call for projects was launched for the 2014 residence.
The residency is always accompanied by a program of meetings, interviews, readings and workshops with audiences more or less targeted according to the author’s work. This makes it possible to involve the writer in the cultural life of the city and to share his presence with local actors. It radiates throughout the Grasse area.
