Protected Areas (Udap)
The Departmental Unit of Architecture and Heritage (Udap, ex-Stap) is a territorial unit of the Drac. There is one in each of the 13 departments of the Occitanie region.
Mis à jour le
The mission of the Udap is to promote the architectural and urban quality and the valorization of the territory and its built and landscaped heritage, both to individuals and local authorities (General Council, communities of communes, EPCI, communes, etc.)
In these areas, the Udap has a role of both control and advice. It issues opinions on all projects (construction, rehabilitation, development, etc.) that have the effect of modifying protected areas (built or natural, urban or rural), with the ambition of maintaining or even improving the quality of these.
The Udap also plays a leading role in upstream consultancy and the promotion of quality architecture and urban planning, in particular by paying particular attention to the integration of buildings and development in their context.
The architect of the buildings of France (ABF), within the Udap, has his own missions, as guarantor of the heritage. It ensures the health watch over all the listed and classified heritage, it assists and advises the owners of monuments in their conservation work and participates in the annual programming of grants awarded for these works.
Advice sheets old center
To preserve the heritage and harmony of the old centres, the Drac Occitanie has begun a reflection in collaboration with all the 13 Udap and CAUE of the region to produce advice sheets «Old Centre».
These sheets are a tool for advice and pedagogy intended mainly for the general public and all the actors of the living environment. They serve as a guide for interventions in old centres to maintain, rehabilitate, renovate or build.
