These two days of reflection allowed book and reading professionals to gather around the theme of responsible digital to address this issue from the angles of accessibility, inclusion, sobriety and the economy of attention.
They took place in Nîmes, at the library of the Carré d'Art, in the presence of Nicolas Georges, director of the Book and Reading Department of the Ministry of Culture, Daniel Jean Valade, vice-president culture of the city of Nîmes, and Jérôme Sion, vice-presidentPresident of Occitanie Book and Reading.
Vers a digital of general interest
Citizens have probably never been more likely to use digital services and benefit from the opportunities they offer. Nevertheless, a study by CRÉDOC (Centre de Recherche pour l'Étude et l'Observation des Conditions de vie) estimates that 31.5% of the 18 years and over living in metropolitan France are more or less far from the digital world, due to a lack of mastery of basic digital skills. In this context, the State has published, for the period 2023-2027, a strategic roadmap entitled «France Numérique Ensemble». This proposal materializes commitments shared between the State, local authorities, associations and companies, and is organized around three axes:
- territorialisation of the digital inclusion policy,
- support for the professionalization of the sector,
- steering the digital inclusion policy through data.
It is also a whole chain of actors, ranging from the popular education federation, to the dedicated services of a metropolis through businesses, medico-social centers or municipal and departmental libraries, which brings the digital of general interest to life on a daily basis.
(De) responsible clickss: the podcast that highlights responsible initiatives in the digital sector
During these two days, the two independent podcasters Perrine Tanguy and Typhaine Brigand de Poret met three librarians with ambitious and virtuous digital policies, to inspire and illuminate the impacts of digital, whether they are environmental, social, societal, health or ethical:
These three 30-minute podcasts aim to raise awareness among the general public, promote reflections and alternatives that allow to imagine and realize a more just and sustainable digital world, and foster knowledge sharing to advance responsible digital in public reading institutions.
And in Occitanie?
6 public reading networks in Occitania were recognized or should be recognized Reference Digital Libraries in 2023 and 2024:
- The network of media libraries of Nîmes (30)
- The network of media libraries of Toulouse (31)
- The Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole media library network (34)
- The departmental media library of Lot (46)
- The departmental media library of Lozère (48)
- The network of media libraries of Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole (66)
The program «Digital reference libraries», what is it?
The Reference Digital Library Programme was launched in March 2010 by the Ministry of Culture as part of the 14 proposals for the development of reading. Its objective is to help large French communities develop high-level digital programs, capable of offering users leading digital collections and services and thereby:
- reach new audiences (young people, the elderly, people with disabilities, distant audiences)
- to contribute to the modernization of libraries so that they remain at the heart of the cultural and social activity of their territory.
