Ethnology
The Department of Ethnology mobilizes research for the implementation of cultural projects and positions itself at the interface between the world of social science research and the promoters of cultural projects.
In 1980 an Ethnological Heritage Council and an Ethnological Heritage Mission were created.
The advisers are the relay of the Mission of the ethnological heritage. Many research programs around know-how, kinship or ethnology in urban and industrial environments are then implemented.
Today, the issues developed by ethnologists within the Ministry of Culture have gone beyond the heritage domain itself to affect in a very broad way the mutations of French society.
The question of the memory through the modalities of presence and evocation of the past occupies an important place.
