Book reading, archives and French language
The advisers for books, reading, archives and the French language implement the State policy at regional level.
The various areas of intervention:
Libraries and Reading Development:
- To encourage, support and finance investment projects by municipalities, public inter-municipal cooperation institutions and public reading departments (construction, development, equipment, modernisation);
- Generally encourage the development of reading and reading attendance:
- Support, notably through contractualisation (“territory-reading contracts”, “departmental roaming reading contracts”, “territorial contracts for cultural development and arts and cultural education”), communities that wish to formalize a public reading policy or implement, in their territory, programs for the development of reading and writing practices, cultural action actions or expansion of audiences;
- Encourage the adaptation of opening hours to the rhythm of life of the inhabitants, especially their extension in the evening, in the meridian breaks and on Sundays;
- Promote artistic and cultural education activities (residencies, workshops, etc.) and cultural actions aimed at people who are far from cultural places because of their situation (handicaps, illness, prison, etc.);
- Support regional events that respect the national charter of events of the Fédération interrégionale du livre et de la lecture;
- Promote to regional stakeholders national events dedicated to books, the development of reading, the French language and the languages of France (Night of Reading, Spring of Poets, Week of the French Language, Book Trip).
Book Economics:
- Promote the maintenance and development of independent bookstores;
- Contribute to the expertise of label applications submitted to the National Book Centre by booksellers: labels “independent reference bookstore” (LIR) and “reference bookstore” (LR);
- Assist independent publishing houses publishing regularly.
Professional training and interprofessional support:
- Support mutual knowledge of book and reading professionals;
- Contribute, in partnership with the National Centre for the Territorial Public Service, to the coordination of training programs established by recognized regional structures and associations, the university and departmental councils.
Written heritage:
- Develop and support collaborative conservation, reporting, digitization and presentation of written and graphic heritage as part of a regional plan.
