Maison de la Culture de Bourges - National Stage
If the first Maison de la culture created is that of Le Havre (inaugurated in 1961), that of Bourges, opened in October 1963 and inaugurated by Malraux in April 1964, is the first to operate according to the principles laid down by the minister. Today, the MCB stands out from other national scenes in the region for its production activity, made possible by the importance of subsidies and the presence of a set-making workshop. Since January 22, 2012, Gabriel Monnet, the first director of the MCB, gave his name to the square next to the municipal theatre before taking up residence in the house of culture. The opportunity to look back on the history of this house, first the Hall of Festivals then the House of Culture and now the national scene.
