Benjamin FRANKLIN said: You tell me, I forget. You teach me, I teach myself
remember. You involve me, I learn.”
I have always found this phrase full of truth about the challenge, the difficulties,
but also the happiness of teaching and I believe that the
the wisdom it expresses is particularly valid for
teaching and learning the arts, both in their theoretical aspect
that in their practical aspect, obviously fundamental. These two
aspects are, I am convinced, intimately linked and I would even say

to understand them, to situate them in time and thus to make them

Everything we’ve seen this morning highlights the future challenges of
arts and cultural education and confirms the priority we want
with my dear friend Luc CHATEL.
Its backing to such a prestigious institution, also experienced in
exhibition, publishing and meeting with audiences, as the
Meeting of the National Museums is a decisive choice. This three-way partnership
is an example of what we can do to give impetus
necessary for this true revolution in our minds and in our life together,
that promises us the development of an arts education and
for everyone and for everyone.
Arts and cultural education, with compulsory education

benefit from new and multiple additional resources – and
not substitute for it, I insist – more traditional ways of going
in front of the public. I am thinking first and foremost, of course, of

valuable directory of digital resources of major institutions
You know that I have made digitization one of the great
priorities of my ministerial action for the end of this first decade
of the 21st century, and that I had the pleasure of seeing confirmed yesterday that the
digitization of our cultural heritage and creation will be
supported with determination and generosity in the framework of the Great
National loan launched by the President of the Republic and the
government. Digitization is one of the ways, but of course,
not the only one, because nothing replaces the presence of the works themselves and
the human mediation of teachers, speakers, all our

The Reunion of National Museums was designed to be
one of the great vectors of this meeting finally carried by the State and by

Through the experience of its agents in the organization of exhibitions, which makes
of it a symbol of popular manifestations around art, in this

opening to all, the National Museums Meeting seems to me
particularly well chosen to represent this ideal that I wear from the
“culture for everyone”, meaning a culture capable of being
accessible to everyone, whatever their origin, their horizons or
his journey.
Thank you.
