It is with great emotion that we learn of the disappearance of Geneviève Pastre, who passed away on Friday, February 17 at the age of 87. She distinguished herself both as a writer, poet, editor and a committed gay and lesbian activist.
In addition to her numerous collections of poems, she created a collection, the Octavians in 1985, then her own publishing house, Editions Geneviève Pastre, in 1989.
For the gay and lesbian literature and cause, she played a major role in asserting, opening up and recognizing, in France and elsewhere – a cause she defended with a very strong commitment at the head of Radio Fréquence Gaie, through its research and directing activities, its multiple participation in conferences or television programs, and the creation of its political movement “Les Mauves”.
