One of the brightest and most endearing figures of Caribbean music has just left us.
On the clarinet and saxophone, on the piano, but also on the accordion or the drums, Barel Coppet was the faithful and always inspired interpreter of the Caribbean soul and the joie de vivre of a universal rhythm. He was a master and a model for the young Martinique people who wanted to perpetuate a musical tradition of which he was both enlightened and vigilant.
Very popular in Martinique and Guadeloupe, Barel Coppet was also an authentic figure of Parisian life. In the early 1950s, he was the king of the Biguine. To the metropolitans, he then made discover another culture, that of the islands, indissociably other culture and ours.
