"Culture, Politics and Cultural Policies"
As part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the History Committee organized in Paris on 13, 14 and 15 October 2009, at the Théâtre National de l'Opéra Comique, an international conference entitled «Culture, Politics and Cultural Policies». It took place under the scientific presidency of Mr. Elie Barnavi, historian, scientific advisor to the Museum of Europe (Brussels) and former ambassador of Israel to France. Minister Frédéric Mitterrand delivered the opening speech.
Previous ministers in the spotlight. This symposium presented the different models of cultural policies conducted over the past fifty years in different countries and on different continents. It thus made it possible to reflect on the main missions of the Ministry of Culture and Communication (relating to heritage, creation or cultural industries) with regard to the experience of the different countries invited.
The round tables were chaired by former Ministers of Culture: Jack Lang, Jacques Toubon, Jean-Philippe Lecat, Catherine Tasca, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres and Hubert Védrine, former Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In addition to the session chairs, the conference brought together more than forty political, intellectual, scientific and artistic personalities of twenty different nationalities who compared their experiences during these three days of debates.
