The 2016 edition of the French Language and La Francophonie Week will take place from March 12 to 20 and will propose to discover the French spoken in the different territories of the Francophonie. Depending on whether you are in Brussels, Kinshasa, Geneva, Port-au-Prince, Montreal or Paris, you will find an incredible diversity of words and expressions, popular and tasty. A «blowing snow» is inconceivable in Haiti, where he «drache» rather little, and ordering a «ristrette» in a Marseilles café risks making you look like a «fada»!
Organized every year around March 20, date of the International Day of La Francophonie, the French Language and La Francophonie Week is the regular meeting of lovers of words, both in France and abroad. It offers the general public the opportunity to celebrate the French language and to show its attachment by celebrating its richness and diversity.
Starting in February 2016, a contest entitled “The expression that makes you travel” will be launched on Facebook : Are you particularly fond of an expression? A proverb inevitably reminds you of your family, your region or your country? Share with us these linguistic Proust madeleines!” Authors of the most unusual, poetic or suggestive expressions will win prizes, including ten Thalys tickets and many other surprises. Marguerite Abouet, author of the comic book Aya de Yopougon, has agreed to sponsor this event.
From March 12 to 20, the general public and cultural institutions will also play with French words and expressions on Twitter, using the hashtag #slff16.
Throughout the Week, 1500 artistic events to discover the 1001 flavours of French: exhibitions, writing workshops, animations, shows, competitions, dictations, slam...
Finally, once again this year, radio and television channels will participate in theFrench Language Day in Audiovisual Media, Monday, March 14, 2016. They will devote their major meetings to the French language, multiplying interviews, documentaries, winks and games.
Adopted in more than 70 countries, the French Language and La Francophonie Week is, for the French cultural network abroad, a highlight of the calendar and a key moment of communication on the image of the French language.
