Under the direct authority of the Minister of Culture, the General Inspectorate of Cultural Affairs (IGAC) carries out missions of inspection, control or evaluation, study or mediation. It can provide advice, support, audit, investigation and expertise. It may carry out these missions at the request of the Prime Minister or the Minister responsible for Culture.
IGAC contributes to:
- evaluation of cultural public policies;
- the assessment of the cost, results and effectiveness of the means used to carry out the actions undertaken by the Ministry of Culture.
History of the IGAC
After the creation of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs in 1959 by André Malraux, the need for a General Inspectorate with a transversal competence on all the activities of the Ministry became apparent. In 60 years of history, IGAC has evolved a lot.
