On the occasion of the celebration of 800 years of Saint-Pierre de Beauvais cathedral, the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) of Hauts-de-France, the Hauts-de-France region, the Oise department, the Beauvaisis agglomeration community, the city of Beauvais and the diocese of Beauvais, Noyon and Senlis wished to entrust to the Mobilier national the realization and the deposit of two tapestries of the national manufacture of Beauvais as well as the coordination of the call for projects inviting artists to propose their creations.
The Cathedral of Saint-Pierre de Beauvais is a masterpiece of Gothic art, classified as a historical monument since 1840. In the context of its restoration and the celebration of the laying of its foundation stone 800 years ago, the sponsors wish to call upon an artist to design two models for two tapestries that will then be woven at the Manufacture Nationale de Beauvais using the bass-lice technique.
This call for projects to select one artist to purchase two models for the production of the two tapestries ; as well as two enlargements necessary for weaving and their in situ exhibition. Indeed, during the restoration work, the cathedral remains open to the public with partial closures according to the needs of the site.
