Call for projects: territorial artistic residency- Robertsau-Cité de l'Ill 2024-2025

This residency is part of the cultural policy implemented for several years by the ille de Strasbourg. This policy aims to promote access to cultural offerings and artistic practices for all. Particular attention is paid to children and youth, as well as to the Politique de la Ville (QPV) neighbourhoods, where access to employment, training, care, education, leisure activities and cultural resources are difficult.

The territorial residence is different from a creation residence because here the artist (or the collective of artists) is engaged in a process of co-creation that favors the exchange and mediation with the inhabitants, taking into account the context and the territory. This process aims to make people and local actors perceive and experience artistic research and practice.

This process of co-creation will lead to the production of an object (edition, performance, show, video...) related to the artistic gesture and the lived experience.

This residency could not be thought and conceived without echoing the values carried by Lire notre monde within the framework of the year of labeling of Strasbourg as World Capital of the UNESCO Book from 23 April 2024 to 23 April 2025.

THE THEMATIC

The theme of paper was chosen for this residency. The artist (or collective of artists) is free to treat the subject as he wishes, within the limits of the imposed theme: the reference to paper, in all its forms, must be explicit.

CALENDAR

The territorial residence takes place over 7 months, between October 2024 and April 2025, will have a minimum duration of 9 weeks that can be broken down into several periods, and is composed of 3 phases:
1. Identification, immersion and preparation: ideally the week of October 14 to 20, 2024
2. Residency and artistic actions: November 2024 to March 2025
3. Public Release: April 2025

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS AND MEANS AVAILABLE

The selected artist (or collective of artists) benefits from:
A. From a residence allowance of 10,000 € TTC (tax and social charges included) shared in fees and copyright, for the dissemination of his works, meetings with teams of professionals in teaching, education, out of school time, etc., its interventions and educational workshops on the territory (equipment costs
included); the creation and production of an object for the restitution phase (including technical costs), insurance, expenses (travel, transport, meals).

B. Provision of accommodation. 
C. A room in DRC with a total surface of 150 m² located at 40 rue de l'Ill in Strasbourg, space for exchanges and meetings with the inhabitants, it can also be a space for creation, exhibition, workshops or final restitution.

CANDIDACY

This residency is open to an artist (or collective of artists) graduated in the professional field of digital arts; visual/plastic arts; cinema & audiovisual; performing arts, literature; heritage, and whose artistic research manifests both a confirmed practice and a great openness to other cultural expressions. A multidisciplinary or transdisciplinary approach would be very appreciated. Particular attention will be paid to artists (or collective of artists) with a degree of less than 5 years.

JURY OF SEELECTING

The resident or residents are chosen by a selection board composed of representatives of the «project group» as well as possibly qualified personalities, which makes its final choice after examination of the applications. It validates applications and establishes a pre-selection of 3 or 4 candidates maximum.
The jury gives itself the possibility of an individual audition, in Strasbourg, in person of the candidates preselected in the day of Monday 03 June 2024.

Each shortlisted candidate will be entitled to 15 minutes of presentation (accompanied by a choice of presentation medium) and 20 minutes of questions/ answers with the jury. At the end, the jury will select a final choice among the 3 or 4 pre-selected proposals.

The principles and conditions of remuneration in the pre-selection phase:
- The response to the call for projects (via return email) does not entail any remuneration and costs (paperless sending).
- Presentation before the jury: it involves a contribution to the reimbursement of travel expenses up to a maximum of 200 euros, with supporting documents and regardless of the number of people;
