The International Center for Research on Glass and Plastic Arts (CIRVA)
Centre d'art contemporain created in 1983 on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, the CIRVA – Centre International de Recherche sur le Verre et les Arts Plastiques – has been established since 1986 in Marseille in a former industrial building in the heart of the Euroméditerranée district.
A research and contemporary creation workshop, CIRVA welcomes artists, designers and architects with varied practices who want to introduce glass into their creative process. These artists develop their research and production projects, assisted by the technical team of the Centre, according to the modalities and rhythm suitable for each of the projects.
The artists welcomed are confronted, most often for the first time, with a material difficult to master. Each artist reveals in the material what contributes to enrich his own approach.
For thirty years, CIRVA has welcomed some 200 artists for various projects, both in the field of contemporary art and design and decorative arts. It has a collection of about 600 works that are shown in exhibitions or in museums and art centres around the world.
